Goemon 40th Anniversary Collection Announced

In yesterday's Japanese Nintendo Direct, there was a surprise annoucment from Konami - a Goemon 40th Anniversary Collection!

"Ganbare Goemon! Daishuugou", or "Go for it Goemon: The Great Gathering" will release on July 2nd in Japan and be available for Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Steam (with a physical release for the former two).

This collection covers Goemon's 2D era, i.e titles from Famicom, Super Famicom and Game Boy / Game Boy Color (excluding GBC title "Mononoke Sugoroku"). Unfortunately no Nintendo 64 or PlayStation titles are included.

The collection includes quality of life enhancements such as Quick Save, Rewinding, Turbo button and increasing game speed. Players can also curate their own playlists with Goemon music and view scanned Game Manuals from the included titles.

Alongside the physical release there will also be a "Limited Edition" set which includes the game, a bath towel, a fan and acrylic standees.

MNSG "Redub" Patch Released

A "Redub" Patch has been released for "Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon" by abyssonym that unlocks the Japanese cutscene voices in the US English version of the game.

"Mystical Nina Starring Goemon" Recompilation Released

A recompilation has been released for the English version of "Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon". It can be downloaded here.

In short, this is means the original N64 game can now been recompiled to natively work on PC supporting new features like:

60FPS

Widescreen Support

Improved audio & visuals

Future updates to enable JPN voice lines in English build

This follows the release of the Japanese recompilation of "Ganbare Goemon: Neo Momoyama Bakufu no Odori" back in May.

All you need to do is supply your own ROM file and you'll be able to play MNSG as if it was built for the 21st century.

The creator of this recompilation, klorfmorf states that they next plan to work on a "Goemon's Great Adventure" recomp next.

Two Goemon Phone Games Preserved

In news no one was expecting, RockmanCosmo of MegaMan phone game preservation team "Scilab Secrets" has revealed and preserved two Goemon phone games.

The first game is from the Ganbare Goemon "Thrilling App" series: Ganbare Goemon: Tentekomai-Mai Meikyū-Kan - A maze game reminiscent of the 3D sections of the Famicom Goemon titles.

The second game is part of the Ganbare Goemon 3 phone remake (demake?) - specifically episode 2 (of 12) which features the stage "Wiseman's House".

Preserving these is a huge development as these titles are extremely rare - they could only be accessed in Japan through "Konami Net DX" - a subscription-based service from the early 2000's.

We're hoping that were's move developments in this area as these is one of the most unexplored areas of the Goemon franchise. Kudos to the Scilab Secrests team!

A new Goemon fan translation has appeared! This time it's for the PS1 title "Ganbare Goemon: Oedo Daikaiten.

This has been brought to us by acediez and RetroTranslator who also blessed us the fan translation of "Goemon: Shin Sedai Shuumei" at the end of 2022. Be sure to check it out!

In other news, it was recently unveiled that long-time Team Goemon staff-member Etsunobu Ebisu directed his first game since "Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon" on N64 - with that game being "Princess Peach: Showtime!" for Switch.

"Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon" randomizer released

A randomizer for "Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon" has been released by Abyssonym and is now available to download from their github page.

What is a randomizer you say? In simple terms, it's a tool which modifies a ROM file and randomizes aspects of the gameplay.

For MNSG, it will randomly change the sequence of areas & rooms, including the enemies that spawn there - creating a unique play-through and breathing new life into this 27-year-old game!

Ganbare Goemon Manga gets e-book re-release

13 volumes of the Ganbare Goemon Manga are set for an e-book re-release on 8th of February.

This is welcome news as in recent years physical copies of the manga are difficult to get and fetch high prices.

Here's a list of the 13 volumes:

GG2 (2 vols)

GG3 (3 vols)

GG4 (3 vols)

Goemon Fever (1 vol)

GG Space Pirate (1 vol)

MNSG (3 vols)

GG1 is already available as an e-book, originally coming out in 2013.

6 manga volumes are still unaccounted for: Ganbare Goemon Jigokuhen, Ganbare Goemon Gaiden 2.

The Kindle versions will be available on Amazon Japan for 759 yen ($5.15) including tax.

"Power Pros Baseball KONAMI Dream Stars" Gashapon

Coming at the end of January: A new gashapon being brought to us from Bandai and KONAMI - "Power Pros Baseball KONAMI Dream Stars".

This set will feature a slew of KONAMI characters in the Power Pros Baseball style, including Goemon!

Mameda no Bakeru launches in Japan!

Quick announcement that today, 30th of November 2023, is the release of "Otogi Katsugeki Mameda no Bakeru: Oracle Saitarou no Sainan!!".

It is available on Nintendo Switch in Japan only.

We've previously covered how this title, usually shortened to "Mameda no Bakeru", is a spiritual successor to Goemon due to being directed by Etsunobu Ebisu and having similar themes.
