In the past few days there been a circulation of data leaked from Nintendo dubbed "The Gigaleak". Without going into too much detail, the leak contained a collection of SNES development assets never before seen by the public (and really, were never supposed to be).
While this leak mostly related to Nintendo intellectual property, buried within the files were a few prototype versions of Konami games. These being: Castlevania IV, Parodius, Axelay and... Ganbare Goemon.

It appears that this is a nearly-complete version of the game, so at first glance it'll look familiar. If you look & listen closely though you'll see a few aspects that begin to differ from the final game. For example, the Titlescreen text / music are different:
And some spites differ too (Goemon / Ebisumaru been eating too much protein powder):
There are likely a few more differences to spot and more will be unearthed as people dig further. While we don't condone how these prototypes were obtained, we cannot deny it is a curiosity to see what could have been.
